The foolish CALM (Commercial Advertisment Loudness Mitigation) Act,
introduced in Congress last year gets its first hearing on Thursday,
June 11 at 10 AM. Details of the Act can be found here. We've
said this before and will say it again. Congress has too many more
important issues on their plate to be dealing with such unnecessary
legislation such as this. Nobody (but perhaps the advertisers) likes
commercials louder than programming, however, legislation is not the
answer. The solution is for the FCC to make a better effort to make
sure broadcasters comply with dialnorm rules. Programming loudness is annoying but doesn't merit attention from a Congress that's already overburdened with more important issues.
